Head Start Program

Head Start is designed to meet the emotional, intellectual, social, and physical needs of the child. It is other primary focus is to provide parents/caregivers support, and resources in child care development, as they are the most influential people in their child’s life.

The Head Start program accepts 28 children with two half day sessions of 14 children in the morning and 14 children in the afternoon from ages 3-5 years of age and fully potty trained; we assist children in preparing them for school readiness. Six crucial components are followed and they are Culture & Language, Social Support, Education, Nutrition, Health Promotion, and Parent Involvement.

We abide by the regulations and standards set by Berens River First Nation. We also follow the Chief Jacob Berens Mino-Ayaawin center policy manual.

Students can bring snacks that align with our healthy foods and lifestyle policy. Parents are encouraged to send their child with healthy snacks to promote good and healthy nutrition.

Can my child bring their toy to school?

The centre has a “No Toy” policy which encourages parents to leave their children’s personal toys at home. This is because the toy may become lost or damaged, it may cause a conflict with other children or it may cause distraction from programming.
