Hello! Aaniin,

My name is May McDonald, I am a fluent Saulteaux speaker. I was born and raised in Berens River, MB. I am so proud to serve our community here in Berens River as the manager/coordinator at the Oniigahniisak Aboriginal Head Start Centre. I’ve had the privilege of working in education for 31 years.

My career began as an Educational Assistant. I studied at Brandon University for 4 years. Next, I studied with the Assiniboine Community College as an Early Childhood Educator from 2006-2019, where I earned my ECE III in 2010. In 2018 I stepped into the manager/coordinator role. In 2024, I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Developmental Studies at the University of Winnipeg.

Berens River is my home and my vision for Head Start is to provide support to our children and families by nurturing culture, language (Anishinaabemowin) and healthy beginnings so our next generations can grow strong in who they are and their identity. I hold Standard First Aid/ & CPR, Naloxone, and food safety handlers certificates.
